Mental Health Week

Image

This week, we have been participating in Mental Health week. We started off the week with compliment Monday and every child came into school with a compliment heart left on their desk. I hope this was a boost after a busy week last week! We had a whole school assembly on this topic and ways in which we can ‘fill our bucket’ to promote positive mental health. Today has been ‘Wear in green’ to raise awareness of this topic and it was fantastic to see the sea of green of our class!

They did it!

We are all incredibly proud of the class for showing such resilience, focus and effort when completing the SATs tests this week. They made it to the end! I hope you all have an enjoyable and relaxing weekend. Well done everyone!

Daily mile

We have begun to use our new daily mile track this term, which is a fantastic addition to the school field. It makes walking, jogging or running accessible to us all year round. We have slowly been building our stamina with running over the weeks and will be building up to 8 circuits of the track, which equates to a mile.

Future estate agents!

Over the next few weeks, we will be channelling our inner estate agent and writing persuasive adverts for properties. This week, we have been exploring Rightmove and the phrases and adjectives that are used to sell houses. We have been collecting great examples for our future writing. If you see your child on Rightmove over the weekend, it is for research purposes!

PSHE – why should we be made accountable for our actions? Plus Red Nose Day!

We have been studying drugs as part of our PSHE topic this term. This has involved understanding what are legal or illegal, the risks involved and the criminal sanctions associated. This topic links to our big question and our class novel of Holes. It has been a fantastic opportunity to make links between all of these to understand how our actions can have consequences and why it is important that we are accountable for the choices we make. As part of our drugs topic, we will explore how we can keep ourselves safe in different situations and how we can resist peer pressure in the upcoming weeks.

Our first activity involved looking at specific drugs and identifying the risks, class and law surrounding them.

Our silly hairstyles to raise money for Red Nose Day!

Samba!

This term, 6EC have been looking at the music of Samba – the music of carnival. They have learnt the correct terminology for the instruments involved in Samba and learnt to play these together in a rhythm. The video shows how they all play different rhythms together and listen to the whistle for their cue to start and stop. It is amazing to watch!

Kandinsky Art

This term, our Art focus will be re-creating abstract artwork inspired by Kandinsky. It will involve thinking about how the emotion in songs can empower us to create art. On Friday, the children listened to Schubert whilst creating group art. This is the start of their journey to creating collagraph prints.
