Our final goodbye

It has been a true pleasure to be part of your lives this year – both children and parents. It has been a privilege to finish your time at ACE too. I have been incredibly proud with all the children’s achievements and hard work this year. They have overcome some challenges and shown strong determination. I wish you all a wonderful summer and a successful start to High School. I will still be here in September, possibly on the gate, so come and say hello. I am always happy to help should you need it. Thank you all 6EC! It has been a pleasure! Goodbye and good luck.

Forbidden Corner

We had a really enjoyable trip this week to the Forbidden Corner. On route, we stopped by Brymor Ice Cream Parlour to sample some of their award winning ice creams. The children mentioned this as a highlight! We then continued on to our destination, where we had lunch before going to explore. Our lunch was rudely interrupted by ducks, who definitely managed to steal a few lunch items. Inside, we had a great time exploring the different routes around the grounds, sometimes having to crawl, sometimes getting wet and sometimes hitting a dead end. It was a very memorable trip to end their time at ACE and we hope they had lots of fun.

Arts fortnight – creating our final pieces

Creating our final product was a tough challenge as the craft knives we used took a lot of concentration and precision. We cut out our templates and then used these to print our design onto a T Shirt. It was a team effort to create a clean, clear print and the children collaborated extremely well. It was fantastic to see their memories come to life!

Sports Day

It was a fantastic day last Wednesday to celebrate Sports Day. The children took part in their track events in the morning (50m, 100m, 400m, hurdles and relay) and then in the afternoon, they earned points for their house in the field events (dodgeball, javelin, speed bounce, skipping and football target). We were very lucky with the weather and it was great to see so many parents spectating. The children showed great sportsmanship, resilience and determination on the day and we hoped they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Engineer visitor

To build on our work on earthquakes, we had a civil engineer visitor come to discuss structures of buildings, particularly how these were designed to withstand natural disasters. They explored the designs of buildings and explored creating a brace structure, similar to those used to protect buildings from earthquakes.

Week 1 of Arts Fortnight

We have begun our work for our Arts Fortnight, which focuses on the artist Keith Haring. We have been collating our memories from our time at ACE to showcase on T Shirts in the style of Keith Haring. We started by exploring our imaginations and our emotions, expressing our artist within. We then learnt about Keith Haring as a person and his style. Using each other as models, we practised this skill of drawing people as an outline with no detailed features.

Residential

We had a fantastic time on Residential before the half term! We all took part in caving, abseiling, gorge scrambling and the Via Ferrata. Fears were definitely conquered and the children were taken out of their comfort zone. We enjoyed hot chocolate, a camp fire and orienteering in the evenings. We were very blessed with the weather and the views were spectacular from our lodge accommodation. We hope they returned to you with the tales of their adverntures!
